Cecilia Ibru Goes To Court To Stop Seizure Of Properties

Ibru was served her six-month prison term in hospital bed in what was described as a mockery of the plea bargain agreement reached with the prosecutor, which involved her losing over N190 billion and over ninety luxury properties in different parts of the world. Her lawyer, Ade Okeaya-Inneh on Tuesday, sought an interim order to restrain the government from implementing the forfeiture agreement. Inneh argued that the order obtained by the Assets Management Company of Nigeria, AMCON to implement the forfeiture was not in line with the agreement. But trial judge, Ahmed Mohammed in his ruling refused to grant Ibru’s request on grounds that there’s already an objection challenging her case. The Judge has adjourned till June 23 for hearing of the objection and the substantive suit.
