Two Men caught for carrying 63 wraps of marijuana
Two men, Nuru Lawal, 25, and Mukaila Nurudeen , 35, on Friday appeared before a Badagry Chief Magistrate Court, Lagos State, for allegedly being in possession of 63 wraps of marijuana.
The accused, who did not disclose their residential addresses are facing two counts of breaking and entering into a shop at Ajara area of Badagry.
The prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Uko, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 11 around 1a.m. along Old Road in Ajara area of Badagry.
Uko said that the accused burgled into a shop located at Old Road in Ajara.
“They broke into a shop but before they could steal anything from it, they were caught by local vigilantes.
“When the police searched them, 63 wraps of Marijuana, popularly called weed or Indian hemp, was found on them,” he said.
Uko said that the offences contravened Sections 307 (1) and 327 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The counsel to the accused, Mr Ayo Makinde, pleaded with the court to grant bail to his clients since the offence was a bailable one.
Makinde said that his clients would cooperate with all parties involved in the case for its quick resolution.
The magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with a surety in like sum.
He said that the surety must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case until May 30.
