Ohaneze gives Security Chiefs 7 days to locate, rescue girls or resign

UMUAHIA- AMIDST the raging outrage over the abduction of over 200 Chibok school girls, Ohaneze Youth Council has given the nation’s Security Service Chiefs seven days to locate and rescue the girls or resign their appointments just as it has raised the alarm over the influx of illegal immigrants in South East zone of the country. According to Ohaneze Youths, it is incomprehensible that a group of young Nigerian girls could be kidnapped in their country and kept for close to one month without being rescued despite the huge budgetary allocations to the nation’s security agencies. They described the abduction as “inhuman, despicable, senseless and shameful”. If these girls are not released in seven days, we will be left with no option than to call on the Service chiefs to tender their resignation for incompetence” the group said. Meanwhile, Ohaneze Youths Council has raised an alarm over what it called “influx of illegal immigrants in the South East zone” and called on the relevant security agencies to be alert to their responsibilities by check-mating this. “We notice with regrets the influx of suspected illegal immigrants into the South-East zone and we are worried based on the security situation in the country. “We are calling on relevant agencies, especially Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) to live up to their responsibilities and embark on massive screening of these immigrants in the zone, to know the ones who entered the country legally and illegally. “The illegal immigrants should be fished out and deported to their country. This is necessary because of the worrisome security situation in the country. A stitch in time saves nine”, the statement said. The group said it noticed with concern the influx of the suspected illegal immigrants, mostly from Chad and Niger into the South-East, especially in Enugu and Ebonyi States. OYC observed that these immigrants dominate the population of tricycle (keke) drivers, labourers and artisans in the South-East, and roam about unhindered with nobody questioning how they managed to enter the country. The group however commended the people of Ugwogo Nike in Enugu State who noticed the presence of these immigrants in their neighbourhood, masquerading as herdsmen and drove them away without hesitation. It urged other communities in Igboland to emulate the people of Ugwogo Nike by reporting any suspicious movement around them to the relevant security agencies.
